Bewley's Café Theatre, as part of its new writing venture PERCOLATE, are proud to present two Public Interviews with leading theatre artists about the creation of their work, their processes and experiences.
On April 21, Mark O'Halloran will be in conversation with Eugene O'Brien and on April 22, Louise Lowe will be in conversation with Veronica Coburn.
Both events start live at 7pm and are free to the public. Audiences will need to register to receive a link for each event.

MARK O’HALLORAN

Mark O'Halloran sits down (virtually) with Eugene O'Brien to talk all things writing.
Mark's career has spanned stage, film and television, including the much loved Adam and Paul ; Viva a Spanish language feature set in Havana Cuba, and Rialto which premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival. His work has been seen at Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Telluride and Sundance film festivals. For the stage he’s written the play TRADE, contributed text to the award-winning production LIPPY and co-wrote Beckett’s Room for Dead Centre at The Gate Theatre. He is currently writing on the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Conversations With Friends for the BBC and Hulu.

Louise Lowe talks to Veronica Coburn about her work as a theatre maker and her innovative approach to site-specific and immersive art works within communities of space, place and interest. Since co-founding ANU in 2009, she has directed all of the company’s multi-award winning work to date, including: The Party to End all Parties (Dublin Theatre Festival), Canaries (Commissioned by Dublin Port), Faultline (Gate Theatre co-production for Dublin Theatre Festival), The Anvil (Manchester International Festival), The Lost O’Casey (Abbey Theatre, Dublin Theatre Festival) winner of 3 Irish Times Theatre Awards. Veronica Coburn is a theatre artist with a particular interest in participation and play. She has a number of areas of expertise, theatre of clown, participatory art practice and the development of a national culture of theatre in the young adult population. Read Veronica's full biog here.
MARK O’HALLORAN

Mark is a writer/ actor from Ennis, Co. Clare. As an actor he has worked with all the major theatre companies in Ireland. On screen he has appeared in numerous films, most notably as one of the eponymous heroes in Adam and Paul for which he also wrote the screenplay and the lead role of MP in History’s Future directed by Fiona Tan for which he was nominated as Best Actor at IFTA awards 2017. Most recently he played the role of Craigy in Shane Meadow’s TV series for Channel 4, The Virtues. He also appears in Darklands and Dead Still, as well as the upcoming Sky Italy TV series, Devils.
Writing credits include: GARAGE and Adam & Paul, the television series PROSPERITY; Viva a Spanish language feature set in Havana Cuba, and Rialto which premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival. His work has been seen at Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Telluride and Sundance film festivals. For the stage he’s written the play TRADE, contributed text to the award-winning production LIPPY and co-wrote Beckett’s Room for Dead Centre at The Gate Theatre. He is currently writing on the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Conversations With Friends for the BBC and Hulu. Also this year he will premiere a new play Conversations After Sex in Dublin. In the autumn he presents a stage adaptation of Bergman’s The Silence with Dead Centre at the Stadsteater in Göteborg, Sweden. He has also written a libretto called TRADE which premieres in New York in early 2022.

As a theatre maker Louise makes site-specific and immersive art works within communities of space, place and interest.

As a freelance Director work includes Test Dummy (Theatre Upstairs, Nominated Best New Play, Irish Times Theatre Awards), Deep (Cork Opera House), The End of the Road (Fishamble), Across the Lough (Performance Corporation), Secret City, Right Here Right Now, The Baths, Demeter Project: Cultural Olympiad Production (Prime Cut Productions). TV and film includes Fair City (RTE), Falling Out of Standing and HawksNest .

(Peacock 2004), Just Here (Bewleys Café Theatre), The Good House of Happiness and Eliza’s Adventures in the Uncanny Valley, both in collaboration with PAN PAN theatre company. His new play Heaven will be produced by Fishamble.

Veronica Coburn is a theatre artist with a particular interest in participation and play. She has a number of areas of expertise, theatre of clown, participatory art practice and the development of a national culture of theatre in the young adult population. She was a founder member of Barabbas Theatre Company and she is the author of Clown Through Mask - The Pioneering Work of Richard Pochinko As Practised By Sue Morrison. Written in collaboration with Sue Morrison it is published by Intellect Press.
